In Katakhali, many children were spending most of their free time on mobile phones, isolated from one another and disconnected from play, a situation that also increased the chances of drug abuse within the community.
During an individual SALT conversation, a young daughter-in-law named Jyoti shared her concerns about this growing problem. She had heard about Choya’s team, who had successfully brought children together through games, and felt inspired to try something similar in her own community.
Taking the initiative, Jyoti began gathering children in the courtyard, introducing them to different traditional games that she herself had learned. Slowly, the children started leaving their phones behind to join these play sessions.
This reduced mobile usage by 0.7 hours and increased study time by 1 hour.
What began as a small effort grew naturally—now, the children come together to play regularly, laughing, running, and learning side by side. Through Jyoti’s leadership, Katakhali’s children are rediscovering the joy of play and gradually breaking free from their phone addiction.
